Nike SB Dunk High ‘Silver Box’ Review

Nike SB Dunk High Silver Box

It might look like an SB Dunk High ‘Iron’ with a green swoosh but this pair is much more than that. These released in October 2016 as part of the ‘Box series’ to pay homage to what is arguably the best SB Dunk years of all time, the Silver Box era.

Read on for a full review.

The first Nike SB box to feature the SB logo, the Silver box showed up in 2003 and was simply a matte silver box with green labels and Nike SB have done a great job of translating this onto this sneaker with a great combination of premium suede in Grey and Hyper Verde, similarly coloured laces, a gum bottom and a silver midsole to finish things off nicely.

An embossed shoe box logo on the heel pays tribute to sneaker boxes and the feeling of opening up a fresh box of kicks – a feeling that never gets old for someone who really loves shoes. Sneaker boxes themselves are amazing, no matter what brand they’re from, seeing a sneaker box makes me wanna know what’s inside. Materials on these are really good – the suede is buttery soft everywhere.

These look amazing on feet and the green just pops. They come with spare grey laces but those are gonna stay in the box; green laces only on these for me. Comfort wise, the sole is a little stiff but the Zoom Air unit in the heel helps stepping comfort.

The printed graphic insole representing coloured Nike SB shoe boxes used over the years – Pink (2005), Orange (2002), Black (2006-2007) and my favourite the Silver boxes (2003-2004). I think that the best themed SB Dunks with the craziest materials came out in the Silver Box era including the Supreme Highs, FLOM, Paris and the Heinekens. These shoes will forever be a testament to how the SB Dunk line was the progenitor to the kind of collabs we see nowadays and the ingenious creativity that went into bringing some of the weirdest concepts (Money Cats and Blue Lobsters?) to life as a shoe.

That gum sole is all kinds of beautiful. These fit true to size for me and I’m gonna be rocking them all summer while I pursue some older SB Dunk releases to cop. The box series was pretty good overall and might just be the pick-me-up that the Nike SB line needed. Hoping materials stay this good on the ‘Reese Forbes Reverse Wheat’ that drop later this month which I’m definitely gonna try and get. It’s been 15 years since the first Nike SB Dunk released but we may just be at the start of a revival. Would love to hear what you guys think of these, do leave your comments below.
